The Ins-and-Outs of Having Your Teeth Whitened
Cosmetic Teeth Whitening
Many people don’t think about whitening their teeth until someone mentions the fact that there are an abundance of teeth whitening techniques for them to take advantage of. When it comes to wanting your teeth whiter, there are many reasons as to why you want to perfect your smile. For starters, perhaps you are a smoker and your teeth have turned a yellow color. If you drink red wine, this substance can stain your teeth as well. Even if you don’t notice your teeth are far off from being white, whitening them can show you a big difference. No matter your reason, there is no denying that going to the dentist and having your teeth whitened will make your smile whiter.
Going to the Dentist
If you choose to whiten your teeth through professional methods, you will need to visit a dentist. Basically, you have two options to choose from: have them bleached or use a custom tray to whiten them with whitening gel. The route that you take to whiten your teeth is based on your preferences; however, if your dentist makes a suggestion, it s best to listen to him or her.
Having your teeth whitened through power bleaching is accomplished through one to three visits made to your dentist. Each visit will take about 60 to 90 minutes to carry out, and the cost of the entire procedure will be somewhere between $500 to $1,500.
If you don’t want to delve out the money to have your teeth power bleached, your alternative is to have a custom tray created for you, which will require a trip to your dentist. Once the custom tray is received from the manufacturer, you will then have to purchase whitening gel from your dentist. The cost of the gel varies from one dentist to another; however, the overall expense of going this route is considerably much less than having your teeth power bleached. On the downside, however, you will be responsible for filling the tray with gel every night for two to three weeks and wearing it over night. Every morning you will have to clean the tray.
If for some reason you don’t want to go to a professional to have your teeth whitened, you can purchase do-it-yourself teeth whitening kits from a local pharmacy or retail store. Such kits often come with their own tray and whitening gel; however, the trays will not be custom fit to your teeth, meaning they won’t whiten your teeth as good as a tray will that is custom made by your dentist. Also, the gel won’t be as potent as the gel you can get from your dentist, meaning it won’t get your teeth as white either.
You can also purchase toothpaste that has whiteners in it. While going this route will be far less expensive than going to your dentist to have your teeth whitened, it most definitely won’t get your teeth as white as he or she can.
All in all, going to your dentist to have your teeth whitened is the best thing to do. The effects that you get from doing this will last much longer than whitening your teeth on your own, and you will notice a much bigger difference than you would had you whitened them using toothpaste or a custom tray purchased from a retail store.
